Why I Would Not Buy The X500+

With the Eten (Glofiish) X500+ just being launched, many people have been wondering if they should take the leap to ‘+’. While the addition of macro function is a useful feature, its VGA-resolution is the main reason why my phone is still without the +.
But wait a minute, + means good right? + means advancement right? And if I love gadgets so much, shouldn’t I be one of those first in line to get it?
Problem is, my last experience with a VGA device (the HTC Universal, which comes with many variants), though great, was a pain at times to use. Switching it on and pressing the ‘Start’ button, it was like watching paint dry. Nothing would happen and when it did, a good 5 seconds have passed. When you consider that this happens every time I need to use the phone, you can imagine how pissed off I got.
Even an email sent to Eten to ask about the performance of the device got this reply:
As the device has a VGA resolution which has 4 times the pixels, it would be 4 times slower.
I wouldn’t mine a QVGA screen (like my current X500). Either that or please use a dedicated graphics processor like the Dell Axims to speed up the device. Are you listening Eten?
