How Spb Backup Saved My Trip
Aug 7th, 2007 by Tariq Bamadhaj
Some of you reading this blog would have known that I recently went to Thailand but what I did not mention was the problem that I faced just before the trip.
My flight was scheduled for 12.10pm that day and I was to meet some friends at 9.30am at the airport for an early breakfast before boarding the plane (we were flying on a budget airline and thus there would be no food served on board). At 9am, just when I was getting ready to leave, I turned on my phone and it started showing weird symbols. At first I thought it was a case of the PDA not being able to read the memory card and thought nothing of it. But that turned out not to be the case.
At that time, I was panicking as all my important data was stored on my phone such as maps and places of Bangkok that I had searched for and wanted to visit, my confirmation documents for bookings and such as well as my shopping lists (gotta have at least of of those when going Bangkok). Thus it was really important that I got my device up and running again before the trip.
Unfortunately, I had not sync-ed my phone with the laptop for the last 2 days due to my busy schedule and I was really regretting it there and then. A hard reset was out of the question because I thought the problem was a straightforward one and no matter what I tried, it didn’t work. I was rather paranoid about using Spb Backup even though I recommended it as one of my top software. The reason is, the last time I used the program a couple of years back, it was not a full restore in a sense that I still had to sync and edit some settings before I got the device in the state I wanted. And I did not have the time to do that now.
Alas, that was my last option and I grudgingly did a hard reset and ran the backup file. Initially it hung for the longest time when restoring emails (I do not use emails so I am not sure what it was doing) and I had to keep resetting it. Finally, I un-checked the option to ‘Restore Emails’ and after about 10 minutes, there was my device, just like I had left it at 3am that morning (my phone does an auto backup at 3am every day).
So for those of you who are scared about trying out new software for fear of messing up your device, Spb Backup will be there to undo any mess that you may have created. Thank you Spb for this really great software.
