4GB (And Higher) Now Possible On The X500!!
Sep 10th, 2007 by Tariq Bamadhaj
A little while back, I wrote a post saying that 4GB was not possible on the X500 due to the lack of driver support for SDHC as well as the architecture for cards above 2GB.
Fortunately, I am now proven wrong because the good folks over at Eten-Users Forum have finally found a solution and tested it. The driver, which you can download here, is actually from HTC’s own device lineup but has been proven to work in the Eten Glofiish X500.
Installation is simple, just unzip the file and upload the CAB to your device and install it as you would with another other CAB. Do note that it affects different versions of Windows Mobile differently:
Windows Mobile 5
You will not longer be able to read regular Micro SD card and also lose the ability to read read/write FAT16 cards so you would have to use FAT32 as the format.
Windows Mobile 6
You will not lose any formats so you can choose either.
Try It With Other Brands
Even if you do not own this device but are running a flavor of Windows Mobile 5 or 6, feel free to give it a try and let me know if it works for you. A word of caution though. This file was intended to work with Samsung-based processors so if you are using something else such as the Intel XScale, do proceed with extra caution. This file is almost risk-free to try because if it doesn’t you can easily uninstall it.
So What Are You Waiting For?
This is definitely great news for all Eten Glofiish X500 owners. Now our devices can support the current 4GB and 6GB SDHC cards out there in the market as well as the much awaited 8GB SDHC! I wonder how big the capacity will get for micro SDHC. So what are you waiting for? Me? Well I’m waiting for the price drop ![]()

so Tariq if i have a x500 running WM 6 and i install the driver .. according to u i would still be able to use my existing MicroSD card without any problems ?
Well if you are going to be using the same card, I would not recommend installing it. Why fix something that isn’t spoilt? But if you are getting a new card, by all means, go ahead. You can always un-install it if it doesn’t work. The patch is still new and being tested so I am not really sure the extent of the operations but so far, things are looking good generally.
thank u for ur feedback tariq… much appreciated !!
Ok the 8GB micro SDHC cost $140
I will gladly spent that money IF the X500+ works with that
Does anybody knows if it really works?
So far, those who have tested an X500 with the 4GB micro SDHC have claimed that it will work. If the card is a 2.0 (and not a 3.0), and you have the patch installed, it should work too. Why not try it out before purchasing it?
I just downloaded and installed the driver on my Eten X500, my 4GB sandisk SDHC card works perfectly, I tried my old 2GB Micro SD card back in and that still works pefectly well although why you would need a smaller capacity card again is hard to imagine,
Great to hear your update
I too am not sure why some would want to use a smaller card. Maybe use it dedicated for TomTom?
How about the X500+ does it work on it too?
have people also done full read write tests on it? I remember reading something about data getting corrupted… so it would be cool if there is a small .net app to create a large 3.9GB file with random data and then to verify it, and then to write new random data (in random order).
keep us posted.
There have been reports that it works. As for the 3.9GB file, I am not too sure about that but then again, what kind of file that big would you want to load on your device? There are those who have filled up the card to the brim and it still works and is able to read the data on it so I suppose it does work.
would this patch work for the m700 as well???
Hi brad
Yes it should work since it is very similar to the X500. Do try and let me know if it works for you.
