Free Up Space By Removing Eten Applications (Part I)
Sep 17th, 2007 by Tariq Bamadhaj
Recently Savvas Efthymiades asked a very useful question in the Q&A section (since been removed. Please use our Forum for future questions) of this blog. In summary, he wanted to know if removal of some applications is alright and what they are for so I decided to tackle it in this post.
From A Hard Reset
If you are planning to do a hard reset soon and decide you want a vanilla flavor or Windows Mobile, press and hold the camera button when you see the countdown (Installation starting in 3, 2, 1). The install will be aborted and you will get the cleanest version of Windows Mobile with as much free Main Memory as possible. It’s not true vanilla as there are already some customization involved but it is very little and does not affect your Main Memory a lot.
Is There A Catch?
Unfortunately YES. You will not be able to send MMS. There might be other services involved but so far, this is the only one known. If MMS is not important to you, then you’re all good to go. But what if you need it?
You need to do a hard reset as before and let the autoinstall run until you see “1/20″. Here you soft reset and when the auto install starts again, cancel it by pressing the camera button. In the first run (before you come to the point “1/20″) the MMS will be installed. The drawback? You’ll lose 11MB of storage.
Is MMS installation really this big? Well I do not think so and I suspect other programs are installed but at the moment, I am not sure what it is.
Due to the length of this post, I decided to break it up into 2 parts. This is the end of Part I of this post. Part II will be posted up later today so do check back.

actually u can have mms without installing anything. just restore only the messaging part of an spb backup taken on the same device with mms installed
That’s definitely an interesting note. I have yet to try it because I do not use MMS but maybe those who have it can share their experience?
Do the following change in the registry:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ControlPanel\Phone]"SuppressUSSD"=dword:00000000
to get back the USSD.
Hi _TB_TB_
That’s a pretty cool hack you got there. Thanks for the input
quick question, what is USSD ?
Hi Hector
USSD = Unstructured Supplementary Services Data. This technology provides simple data exchange between users and GSM operators.
For example, my operator suports “current balance” ussd query. So, you can simply type *102# on your phone and press “Call” button. There will be no call made but your query will be processed by GSM Operator and you will receive an answer (small dialog window with text) such as “You balance is $1″.
When UssdNote service is stoped you can not use this handy feature. It just doesnt work.
