This is Part II of the post. If you have yet to read Part I of how to Free Up Space By Removing Eten Applications, now might be a good time before moving on with this post.

What If I Do Not Want To Do A Hard Reset?

So you’ve got that Eten Glofiish X500 running the way you want it. All the applications installed are those that you use. The registry has been tweaked to your liking and you have personalized it such that anyone who picks up your phone will know it belongs to you. Hard reset is out of the question so how can you go about freeing up Main Memory space?

Well the simple answer would be to just got to Settings > System and tap on Remove Programs. Scroll to the bottom of the list (usually) and that is where you will find your list of Eten applications. Remove those that you do not want just as you would with other programs.

So What Does Each Program Do?

Here’s a list of the programs that Eten install’s on your phone and their various functions:

  • Eten AddRingtone 1.0: Add other files to use as ring tones for your phone.
  • Eten BatteryMeter Service: Shows a small battery icon just below the time in the start bar.
  • Eten Birthday Reminder: Shows upcoming birthdays and anniversaries by month.
  • Eten Backup Utility 3.2: A backup software.
  • Eten PhoneService 2.0: Implements Zoom SMS and Scenarios (Profiles) as well as USSD queries and maybe Call Filter?
  • Eten EtPhone: Skin for your dialpad that gives you the larger keys?
  • Eten GPRS Wizard 3.0: Contains GPRS settings for easy connections.
  • Eten GPS Viewer: Shows which satellites are connected and your location information (time, latitude, longitude, etc).
  • Eten ImageWizard: Graphic editor.
  • Eten Image Maker 1.3: Similar to MS Paint.
  • Eten Location SMS: Sends an SMS with your co-ordinates.
  • Eten MDesk: A launcher-type program.
  • Eten Multimediamanager 3.1: Helps you sort through your multimedia files.
  • Eten Satellite Data Update 1.0: Downloads satellite data for a faster fix.
  • Eten ScreenKB: A soft keyboard for data input.
  • Eten SkinChanger: Changes skin for phone?
  • Eten Skype Setting: Changes sound output from rear to phone speaker for Skype calls.
  • Eten SpeedDial 3.0: Speed-dialing program.
  • Eten Quick Link 2.0: ‘Today’ application launcher.

With regards to Eten EtPhone and Eten SkinChanger which are italicized, I am unsure as to what these 2 programs do. I am also unsure if Call Filter is part of Eten PhoneService 2.0.

Is It A One Way Journey?

Will you lose the program forever if you choose to delete it now? NO! It will still be stored in you Extended ROM which is hidden from view so you can always install those programs if the need ever arises. Just go to Programs > Utilities and tap on Application Recovery. Scroll to the program you want to install and tap Install. That’s all there is to it.

A Word Of Caution

While these programs are made to work independently of each other, I am unable to confirm that at this time due to the huge number of permutations. As such, a program you delete causes another to stop functioning, then you would have to install that program again. This would be rare but do keep that in mind.

Also, before you proceed to remove the program(s), ensure that you are not running it as this might mess up the registry.

So What Should Savvas Uninstall?

Remember Savvas? He’s the guy who posted a question in the Q&A section (no longer available. For help, please use the Forum) that lead to this series of post. I talked about what he wanted to do in the first part of this series.

He wants to completely remove Zoom SMS, Call Filter, Scenarios and Battery Meter Icon. In this case, I would advice him to Eten PhoneService 2.0 and Eten BatteryMeter Service IF he does not need USSD. Otherwise, he would just have to remove Eten BatteryMeter Service.

He also mentioned that he wanted to free up some RAM with the removal of these programs. The thing is, your RAM will not be affected if you are not using these services (like me) in the first place.

Conclusion

So that’s all there is to about removing Eten applications. Do let me know if it works for you or if you can confirm some of my doubts in this series of post.

Thanks to ETEN Users Forum for some of their pointers and information.

i just wanted to share something that i have done on my x500 to free up storage space !!
if u use a File Explorer like total commander (free) or Resco Explorer then the files in ur ROM become visible to u.. and in the /Windows directory u will find a series of file having the prefix of PERI_*(filename)… i moved these to the external storage and that freed up a lot of space !! these r the applications that come with the ROM and is used by the Application Utility !!

hi phreaker18, I believe these files can be deleted safely. I deleted mine and saved about 10 MB. They can be reinstalled back from the Application Recovery Tool. :)

I don’t find the peri_* files (using G500 with WWE 110). Is there a tool like HTC has, to unlock and unhide the extended rom?

The files will not appear unless you do a hard reset and stop the customization process.

As for the ROM, no one has been able to find it, yet, but I guess it is just a matter of time. The problem is that Eten calls the ROM differently.

I am using X800, I have uninstalled several ETEN pre-installed software including :
1) Eten Backup Utility 3.2
2) ETEN AddRingtone 1.0
3) Eten Location SMS

I decide to uninstall ETEN MDesk also, as mentioned in the above articles, MDesk is a launcher-type program, would anyone tell what the launcher is ? Any photo showing the launcher for my reference ? If I uninstall it, any programe be affected also ?

Thanks.

Hi Debbie

You can uninstall MDesk at at the moment, I am unable to provide you with a screen shot (as I have uninstalled it too) but no programs will be affected so feel free to remove it.

Hi Debbie

What do you mean by HSPDA button? Could you elaborate what you are looking for?
