Free Up Space By Removing Eten Applications (Part III)
Sep 18th, 2007 by Tariq Bamadhaj
Yesterday, I did a series of posts (actually just 2) on how to remove Eten applications. Part I covered the hard reset method while Part II covered steps on how to go about it without a hard reset. Thus I did not plan for a Part III as I thought I had everything covered.
However, I received some emails from users who were interested in finding out if they could still install selective Eten applications if they followed the method in Part I. While they wanted a clean version, they were looking into spicing it up with some of these applications. There were also some really useful comments which I would like to share with you on freeing up space.
Installing Of Eten Applications From Clean Hard Reset
YES! It’s not as straightforward as the method in Part II for installing programs but it can be done. Go to your Windows folder. Inside you will find a long list of files that correspond to the programs. For your convenience, here are the CAB files (in bold), their sizes (in italics) and the programs you get from installing them:
- PREI_ADDRINGTONE.ALLLAN 247 Adds MP3 files as Ringtones
- PREI_BATTERYMETER 89 Battery Meter

Thanks to ETEN Users Forum for some of their pointers and information.
Requirements of PhoneService 2.0
Unlike initially thought, PhoneService 2.0 plays an integral part of your phone. While it offers you functions such as Scenarios and Zoom SMS as discussed in Part II of this series, it also has other functions as well.
Gary Oberbrunner says you will need this program for your GPS Viewer and Satellite Update to work. Which I think is integral for many of us. While you can’t save memory space by removing this program, you can still save RAM by not activating Zoom SMS and using Scenarios.
Removal Of Files From Windows
Another way to increase Main Memory space is to remove the files that you see in this folder that comes with the PREI_ prefix which you can find in the beginning of this post. These files are required if you want to install Eten applications, otherwise, they are just taking up space. You can either move it to your Storage Card to free up space as suggested by phreaker18 in one of the comments that he left or you can remove it completely by deleting it, as suggested by Adrian in a comment. Either way, you will free up Main Memory space which is what you want.
Can I Really Not Have MMS From A Clean Hard Reset?
Well apparently this is possible. All you need to do according to kourampies is to let the installation run as per normal. Then you install Spb Backup and run the backup program once, backing up everything on Main Memory. You then do a Clean Hard Reset as discussed in Part I and then do a restoration using your backup file but only choosing to restore only Message. You will then get your MMS component without the bloat.
Hope you found that useful and thank you to all who have contributed. Do these methods work for you?

Here’s a WAY easier way to get your MMS back after a hard reset:
IN Total Commander or your favorite file explorer, go to the windows folder, find the file CSP.exe and double-click it. Nothing will appear to happen, but now go to Messaging and your MMS account appears!
I didn’t discover this, but I did test it.
Unfortunately I still can’t *send* MMS messages, but that’s just my US T-Mobile provider issue.
This sure sounds useful. I do not use MMS as well so I can’t test it but hopefully someone who does can check.
Any luck with you getting the T-Mobile issue sorted out anytime soon?
I tested that and I can’t my MMS back again
Regards
Xavier
Read PART IV and PART V written by me!
I discovered were the 11 MB went!
OK, where are these parts IV and V? Am I missing something?
I am not sure about Part IV but I saw Part V in the comments section of the post ‘So How Much Space Can You Get With A Hard Reset?’ I guess Part IV should be there as well and I missed it. They were contributed by Xavier.
