If you find the just-released Opera for Windows Mobile Pocket PC v8.65 with all the bells and whistles a bit too much for you to shell out $24 just for the tabbed browsing, then you are in luck. If you are using WM5.

Web Viewer for WM5 - Outlook

Web Viewer for WM5 by ANB Software will bring tabbed browsing, among other features to Internet Explorer on WM5. Unlike other available options out there, this one is free. The downside is that it only works for WM5. And you will net .Net CF 2.0.7045.0. That means it’s a no-go for us WM6 users (I’ve tried).

Web Viewer for WM5 - Options

So what’s so great about this program? It only brings tabbed browsing to WM5 but it sure seems to be bring the full package. What I mean by this is that, not only does it do what it needs to do, but everything associated with it as well. You could choose whether to hide or show the tabbed bar, you can manipulate the tabs such as closing all, closing only one, reloading all and so forth, and you can also duplicate tabs.

Web Viewer for WM5 - Tab Options

If you are using WM5 and do not have any enhancements for your Pocket IE, then this should be one of those that you do get. You might need to install .Net CF 2.0 but that might be a small price to pay for a free software that brings a much needed feature to an otherwise weak software.

Are you using Web Viewer for WM5? What are your thoughts on this?

Update (10/18/07): Apparently, it does work for WM6 as well. Check it out here.
