Find out how the Glofiish M800 by Eten fares

I am pretty interested in the Eten Glofiish X800 for many reasons. One, because it promises a lot from Eten Corp and I am wondering if they can keep that promise. Two, because it comes with a VGA screen but no dedicated graphics chip (from what I know) so I assume it will be laggy but I hope to be proven wrong. And thirdly because we have been hearing so much about it but so far, have yet to know of anyone purchasing it.

If you have this new device, do let us know. Where did you get it? How much did you pay for it? Is it as great as it sounds or does the VGA kill it? Does Skype work on this device? Share your thoughts. We are eagerly waiting.

As I know, it sells for about 2 weeks in Russia.

Hi Andrey

That could explain why all these reviews are from Russia. I wonder why it is not being sold in other parts of the world at this moment. Have you gotten one?

Yes, I’ve got it. For this moment I don’t see any other VGA/GPS communicator. It was cost about $840 for X800 + car kit. I don’t use it for play movies but there is conflicting data about it - some people say about 110 FPS, some say about 60 FPS. I don’t try to use skype gor this moment, but shure it must work well.
There is only bad thing - 64 Mb of RAM, but it’s chip architecture problem.

Hi Andrey

Yeah at the moment it is the only VGA/GPS communicator out there. I hope you are enjoying it. If it is not too much to ask, could you install Skype 2.1 (it allows you to make calls) as well as the Skype Switch Receiver. Let me know if you need both files and I will give you links to download them. This is to check if the sound comes out from the earpiece when you make Skype calls or if it comes out from the loudspeaker at the back.

I try to test skype 2.1 with SSR and it works well. I can switch sound from the loudspeaker to earpiece without any problem.

Hi Evert

The site says that it will only be available in a day’s time and they have been known to keep pushing the date. Have you gotten or planning to get one anytime soon?

Yeah, but not until march 2008 when I will visit the Netherlands. Buying it there will save me about 20%… :-)

Hi Evert

No worries. I think by that time, you will save a lot more because the price should have dropped quite a bit.

Well, my guess/hope is that by that time the price difference is still 20%
(Or, even better, that I can get a similar unit somewhere with perhaps more RAM, a 5MP cam, built-in espresso machine, etc etc)

Hi Evert

That would definitely be a winner. Who knows, maybe by that time, Eten might come up with the X800+ (which they have done for the X500, the M600 and the G500).
