Hello guys. I was in New York and received a LOT of feedback about my Glofiish X800 review, and guess what, I am really upset with my device today, since it has a very stupid circuit inside the phone that makes it somehow fragile. However today I’m going to try to repair the unit so that I could carry 2-3 batteries with me when I travel, so that I will always have good battery with my cell phone.

I rented a Ford Jaguar and drove from Boston - New York, at aproximately 100 miles per hour. Hmm, maybe the bumps (I don’t remember any sudden move or bump in the road), caused the USB charger cable to disconnect. Battery was drained, but the worst part is, I had to use my Toshiba Portege G900 with T-Mobile the rest of the trip.

I tested 3G speed and have some incredible details! Apparently Internet Explorer with the (Use 8 Max Connections setting on - configured via STK Tools) is twice as faster as Opera and Nefront34 I got speeds of 340 kbit/sec which is pretty awesome.

Anyway, back to the battery problem, when you open up your battery lid, (try to do this and you’ll see why this is such a stupid idea), you open up a circuit in your Glofiish X800. In other words, your device will not power up, no matter how hard you try it, unless you close the battery lid (since it closes a circuit in the internal motherboard). Problem is, EVERY TIME YOU OPEN UP YOUR BATTERY LID, YOU RISK YOUR WHOLE PHONE OPERATION. In other words, ever time you open your battery cover, you might damage a very fragile, very small part inside the motherboard, and with that part broken, your device will never boot up again.

So, I couldn’t use the device and finally, in the airport, I decided to make it work no matter what (yes, that means even if I brake up everything and make the device totally useless and lose a phone, I was willing to discover why my Glofiish wasn’t booting up).

So, if you plan to buy 2-3 batteries, be careful each time you open and close your battery lid, since you already know you are making your device useless every time you do this, unless you close the lid again. For the people that are cautious this shouldn’t be a problem, for people like me who want a rock solid device, this is a problem

Today I’m going to the Pocket PC tech repair to repair/enhance my phone. I will permanently close this circuit so that my device will always be “ON”, in other words, it will be the only Glofiish X800 in the world that will work with the battery lid open :)

Here are some amazing pictures, I opened up the whole device in the airport, then inside the airplane (even as we landed I was trying to open up the device), and finally I made the device power on by placing a screwdriver between two gray spots in the motherboard and understood how ridiculous the guys from Eten programmed this device. They won’t allow you to use your Glofiish X800 unless your battery lid is closed, but I don’t like to have a fragile device that after a ride from Boston to New York stops operating.

Nice internal pictures of the X800, though a little blurred. I’ve always like to see the internals of gadgets! Nice blue motherboard too!

By the way, do u mean the little slot that gets ‘de-pressed’ everytime the battery cover is opened? I believe this is a feature built into PPC to prevent sudden loss of power to the device thus loss of data when the battery is removed. My X500 also have this at the bottom. My previous O2 mini has it at the sides (if i rem correctly).

Yeah well what do yo think happened?
Device was working, I tried removing a microSD and inserting the 4GB microSD (since the 1 GB microSD has TomTom US Maps and the 4GB microSD has TomTom US Western Regional Map which is smaller)

The microSD slot was damaged, I had to open the device again, and now the device is useless. I have to wait maybe one month in order to buy that part, it’s a small part that carries the GSM card in one side, and the microSD card in another.

So just an advice, whenever you remove a microSD card, do it CAREFULLY, LIKE IF YOU WERE IN A CIRGURY

I RECOMMEND BUYING THOSE TINY PIECES GIRLS USE TO REMOVE HAIRS FROM THEIR HORRIBLE NOSES hahahaha

seriously, buy one of those, and the next time you remove your microSD and insert another one, do it really carefully. Maybe since I used my nails for that (those microSD are so small), maybe I damaged that part.

I think I NEED the Glofiish (since it has Skype, earphone speaker, and 3G), however I think it’s pathetic how fragile it is

X500 doesn’t has the same problem since the microSD slot is a separate slot from the GSM card, and I assume it’s better.

Yeah but it’s a shame those tiny pieces are so fragile

I would recommend NOT to use the Glofiish X800 as a GPS device since it’s not solid as the X500

why?

Because it has the same socket for GSM card and microSD, with all those pieces being such small and fragile already, if you combine them, you just make them worse.
