Single Line Date

Do you use the Date plug-in on your Today screen? If you do, you would realize that the plug-in is pretty generous on space which could translate into poor real estate management for some of us. Wouldn’t it be better if you could just have all that information in just one line? That way, you can always insert another plug-in without having the scroll bars come up and messing the look of your Today screen. If this is the look you are looking for, read on.Registry Key

There is only one registry key to tweak. As always, do a backup before proceeding with any registry changes because you never know when things get messed up. The key that you want to look for is

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Today

In this entry, look for this setting:

AutoSingleLineDatePlugin

and tap on it to change it. The value should be at 0. You want to change it to 1. If you do not see this entry, then add it as a DWORD with a DECIMAL value of 1. Quit your registry editor and do a soft-reset. Your changes should be seen after the reset.

Single Line Date - Before Single Line Date - After
Date on double line. Date on single line.

As you can see from the picture above, your date is now all in a line, and you have managed to save some real estate space.

I was wondering about that for a long time! Why would they waste so much precious real estate on the Today screen?

Now I use TodayAgenda though (another nice freeware), and it has its own date banner, so I just turn off the system one.

Hi Gary

I had the same thoughts exactly but in the end I went with another free plug-in: Today Time
