Remember Handango’s Free MobiTV?
Nov 30th, 2007 by Tariq Bamadhaj
Did you take part in Handango’s Free Software Friday a month back and downloaded your free copy of MobiTV? Did you think it was a free software that you never have to pay for? If you answered YES to both questions, then you’ll be in for a shocker. Because, while the software that you downloaded is free, the content is not. It works on a subscription-based service and you may be charged for it.
The service costs $9.99 a month and I am not saying you should cancel your subscription. If you are enjoying it and have a use for it, then by all means, continue to subscribe to them. I am sure there are those who find this service useful. But if you downloaded the package not knowing that you will be charged, then you have to action. And take action quickly. Because a month after you download/activate the service, Handango will automatically bill you for the next month’s subscription until you terminate it.
To terminate your subscription, log into your Handango account. Look for ‘Subscription Products’ which should be on the left side of the page. A screen shot of it is below:

When you select this option, all your subscription options (if you have more than one) will be listed here. For example, I only have the MobiTV subscription with Handango so my screen shot is as such.

Next, click ‘Cancel’ to terminate your subscription and follow the steps involved. That’s all there is to it.

Hey -
Thanks for the heads up on this. I downloaded the app and it wouldn’t install on my device (doesn’t support 640×480). I just check my Handango account and it was about to be charged the subscription fee. Never would have thought about it … except for this post. THANKS AGAIN!
Hi Pete
No worries about it. I think a lot of people who do not read this blog will be surprised. I just hope that when they find out that they something about it, provided they do not want the service to begin with.
Thanks a lot. Exactly the same thing for me like Pete wrote
Hi henk-jan
No worries. Glad you managed to sort it out before the deadline.
