Find out how the Glofiish M800 by Eten fares

Last week, I gave my take on the Eten Glofiish X800 by listing out all that is wrong with the device. It was done by going through all complaints made about this device, listing them out and adding possible solutions to the problems. If you were planning to buy the Eten Glofiish X800 and had read that article, you might think that there was nothing good about the device at all. Well that is what this post is all about. These are some of the reasons why you would want to buy the Eten Glofiish X800.

VGA

What causes device slowdown is also one of the reasons you would want to consider the X800. Having VGA resolution can make everything on screen look much better. When I used the HTC Universal (also a VGA device), surfing the web was so much better. I could also make it true VGA which gave me a lot of screen real estate. If you have not used a Windows Mobile phone, try and get hold of one and see how much better your experience will get.

ROM

At 256MB, you can definitely install a lot more than 128MB of ROM which is found in most devices. This would be really great if you have a lot of software that need to be installed on Main Memory such as launchers and PIM-related applications. Even if you do not have a lot of applications that need to be installed on Main Memory, you can always make use that extra space for increasing the various caches to increase system performance.

Skype And VoIP Calls

At this point in time, only Eten Glofiish devices are able to redirect sound from the main speaker to the phone speaker, perfect for VoIP calls. This then allows you to make such VoIP calls as normal calls without the need for a headset or sharing it with the people around you. No other Windows Mobile manufacturer has been able to provide this feature in their devices and with VoIP gaining popularity and going mainstream, having a device that works as Eten Glofiish does in the area of VoIP is a big advantage.

SiRFStarIII GPS Chipset

One of the best, if not the best, GPS chipsets in Windows Mobile devices (or any device for that matte) is that of the SiRFStarIII. It locks on quickly, even from a hard-reset and is ’sticky’ so you could even maintain lock-on when under thick coverage or passing through tall buildings. It also provides an update feature where you can download the co-ordinates the GPS satellites so that you can achieve lock-on status even faster. With other GPS chips that I have tried, the experience does not come close and makes an investment in this chipset really worthwhile.

How Do You Decide?

Looking at all the pros and cons of the X800, you might be confused if this is the device for you. Like any purchasing decision, I would suggest you buy what you need and will use, rather than what just looks good because everyone wants one. At the end of the day, you will be the one using the device and if it does not meet your needs, you’ll never feel satisfied with the purchase.

So list out what you need in a device. Look at its disadvantages and problems. Will they impact your day to day use of it? Can you live with these problems until a ROM update comes along and fix it? Or are they critical features that you need and cannot live without. From there, you will get a better feel of it and can make the decision. Good luck!

What are your reasons for buying the Eten Glofiish X800?
