Set Your Default SIP
Dec 6th, 2007 by Tariq Bamadhaj
So you’ve finally decided to move away from the default keyboard that came with your Windows Mobile device for one of the newer Soft Input Panel (SIP) that we covered in the recent SIP Shootout (Part I, II, III, IV). And good news, you’ve actually found the SIP for you. Wouldn’t it be great if you could set it as the default SIP so that every time you do a soft reset, that SIP will automatically be selected so you no longer have to fumble with the stylus?
Well it used to be possible to set the default SIP through some registry hacks here and there but 2 problems came up. First was finding out the registry entry of the SIP you want to make default. For more popular ones, it was easier to find but not so the case for those there were not as well-known. Then when WM5 came out with AKU2.x, it seemed that the registry hack no longer worked because the SIP reverts back to the default keyboard.
The Solution
I could share with you as to why the hack no longer worked but I think most of you would rather be interested in the solution so here it is. Just download SIPChange, install it to your device, launch it and set your preferred SIP and you are all set. This SIP will always be selected after a soft reset, unless you change it, so you no longer have to fiddle with your stylus.
How do your set your default SIP?

Hi Tariq,
I was reading the xda developers forum and many say they’re are having problems to use SIPChange with PCM Keyboard. Have you tried that? If yes on which device? Also, can you confirm it’s working??
Hi Daniel
Thanks for the heads up. I have tried using SIPChange with PCM Keyboard on my Eten Glofiish X500 and it works just as expected. Have you tried using it on your device and if so, for which device?
You can also use SK Tools
I have TouchPal as my default SIP
Hi Xavier
Thanks for the insight. I do not use SK Tools (because they always reset my settings when I uninstall it) but users who do would definitely find this useful
