Speed Up Your SD Card
Dec 11th, 2007 by Tariq Bamadhaj
If you frequently transfer large amounts of files between your SD card and other storage areas, then this trick can speed up those transfer time by 2 or 4 times than what you are currently encountering. All you need is to change a registry entry and so that means, back up your device first and foremost before proceeding. A registry editor is also needed such as the freeware PHM RegEdit which is what I use.
All you need to do it look for this registry entry:
HKLM\Drivers\SDCARD\ClientDrivers\Class\SDMemory_Class
There will be a key which you need to change called
BlockTransferSize
which is located under the entry. The default value should be 64 but you can change this to 128 to double the speed or 256 to quad it. Going any higher than 256 apparently does not make much of a difference due to other resources it affects.
You will also notice other entries related to other types of cards classes such as MMC_Class and SDIO_Class. If you do not use such cards, then tweaking these entries would not make any difference to your transfer speeds.
Does the tweak work for you?
