Upgrading ROM For Vista Users
Dec 11th, 2007 by Tariq Bamadhaj
There seems to be a common problem that Vista users are facing when it comes to ROM upgrading. And this problem does not just plague Eten Glofiish users but just about any Pocket PC user I know who is running Windows Vista. Until Microsoft fixes this problem (in the upcoming SP1 patch), you are only left with 2 options.
Flash From SD Card
The easier of the 2 methods. You will need to use a normal SD card (not those SDHC types) for it to work. We have covered on how you can Flash Your ROM With An SD Card here which you can refer to if you want to use this option.
Upgrading Vista
The second option is to do some patching of your own on Vista. This looks more complicated but then again, after doing this, you can use your Device Center as it was meant to be. I found 2 links that contains steps and files needed. The first one, anichillus.net, has a step by step guide listed out nice and with pictures. The second, discussed on XDA Developers, is more of a bare bones kind of guide but it has a lot of user comments so if you are facing problem, some read up might help you.
Last Words
I do not run Windows Vista and have no access to a computer that does so I can’t verify the above for myself. But it does appear to work based on feedback from other users so I guess it’s all good.

I tried the instructions in the links above but the problem seems to be when trying to update the drivers, Vista rejects the driver file I’m trying to use. It asks if the driver files are compatible with 32bit Windows (I definitley downloaded the correct file). Looking around the other forums it seems like you only have a 50/50 chance that this method will work for you.
I think I’m going to try using XP as I don’t have a “low capacity” SD card to use for the alternative method.

Hi Andy
I’m sorry to hear that you could not get it to work. If you don’t have a normal SD card, why not get one? I think you can get a low capacity one for pretty low price on eBay.
