Have you ever been in a situation where you need to text a group of people to inform them of something? Maybe it was to your project group to tell them that the meeting later has been canceled due to poor weather. Or maybe it’s to Christmas party guests to remind them of your new address. Whatever the reason, the text messaging application in Windows Mobile does a poor job of sending text messages to groups of people.

Poor because it is still possible to send the text messages to a group. You tap on the To: field and tap on the contact you want to send the message to. And you keep doing that until you’ve got all your recipients in the field. Not exactly efficient if you ask me. And if you are always sending text messages to the same group, it can get tedious after a while.

Which is why Shailesh Ashar invented GroupSMS. At v1.1, it is a very basic program but it gets the job done. You’ll need .NET Compact Framework 2 to get the application to work but if you are using a WM6 ROM from Eten, then you are good to go.

With this program, sending text messages to groups should now be a breeze. Now if only I had an unlimited text messaging plan
