Change Your Menu Font
Dec 20th, 2007 by Tariq Bamadhaj
Last time around, I showed you how you could change your system font properties so that you can tweak it until it fits you just nice. However, you might still notice that some fonts were not changed to your liking. That’s because, these fonts are governed by another set of properties. This time, I’ll show you how to change your menu font. It’s very similar to changing your system font but with a different registry key and default values.
Registry Key
To change the menu font, you’ll be looking into this registry entry:
HKLM\SYSTEM\GWE\Menu\BarFnt
There are several keys within this entry and for those unfamiliar, I will list them and their characteristics here.
- Ht - Font height
- It - Italics (set 0 for default and 1 for italic)
- Nm -Name of font
- Wt - Boldness of font
You might see other keys within this entry but I would suggest you leave them alone as the ones that can help you tweak the font are the ones listed above. Changing any other key besides these might post problems, so unless you know what you are doing, I would suggest you leave those alone.
Additional Fonts
With regards to the type of font, you only have 2 choices: Tahoma and Courier. Not exactly great but if would like more, you can always copy the fonts over from your desktop to your Pocket PC. Be sure to spell the font name exactly as it is to prevent any corrupted registry.
Default Values
For those of you who have done your fair share of tweaking and are looking for the default values, here they are:
- CS - 0
- Ht - 800
- HtInPts - 1
- It - 0
- Nm - Tahoma
- Wt - 700
Good luck with the tweaking!
