Last week, we covered 2 tips on how you can change your system font and changing your menu font. For those of you who have tried doing so, you would have noticed that not all the dialogs in your Pocket PC have their fonts changed. In this tip, I’ll guide you through changing your popup menu font so that by the end of this article, your Pocket PC will look just the way you want to. For those who are new to changing fonts, I would recommend you read the previous 2 articles on changing system font and changing menu font so that you get a better feel of the whole idea.

Registry Key

To change system font, you’ll want to change the entries in this key:

HKLM\SYSTEM\GWE\Menu\PopFnt

There are several entries here and for those unfamiliar with it, I’ll explain what each does and what you can do to it.

  • Ht - Font height
  • It - Italics (set 0 for default and 1 for italic)
  • Nm -Name of font
  • Wt - Boldness of font

These are the keys that you can tweak that will cause a change in your Popup Menu font. You might see other keys such as CS which I recommend you to leave untouch unless you know what you are doing.

Additional Fonts

With regards to the type of font, you only have 2 choices: Tahoma and Courier. Not exactly great but if would like more, you can always copy the fonts over from your desktop to your Pocket PC. Be sure to spell the font name exactly as it is to prevent any corrupted registry.

Default Values

For those of you who have done your fair share of tweaking and are looking for the default values, here they are:

  • CS - 0
  • Ht - 800
  • HtInPts - 1
  • It - 0
  • Nm - Tahoma
  • Wt - 700

That’s all the font tweaking there is. Do you know a font tweaking tip that has not been discussed? Why not share it with us?
