Rillog.txt File Getting Too Big?
Jan 17th, 2008 by Tariq Bamadhaj
Have you ever taken your device out for a road trip, using it’s navigation hardware and software extensively, only to find that at the end of the trip (or even during the trip if your trip is a long one) that your main memory has dropped? I have and it took me quite a while to find the cause behind it.
The Problem
But after some research, I found out that the cause of the missing memory space was due to a file called Rillog.txt which resides in /Windows/. I am not sure what is the cause of all this but many suspect that Eten forgot to remove the codes from the final production which is why it is still there. And for those wondering, yes, it only affects Eten users.
The Solution
The important thing is that you do not need the file. You can get rid of it and free up the space. But it’s not so easy as I found out. You can’t just delete it. So here’s what I did:
- Rename the file Rillog.txt to something else like rillog.123
- Create a folder and call it Rillog.txt
- Delete the old Rillog.txt (which is now known as rillog.123)
- Leave the folder Rillog.txt
Sometimes, you might not be allowed to go from one step to another because the file is locked or for some other reason. If this happens to you, all you need to do is do a soft-reset and continue from where you left off. It should work now.
The Reason
So you’ve manage to delete the file and get the folder (Rillog.txt) up. But why do you need to leave it there? For those interested, the reason is pretty straightforward. You delete the file and create a folder so that the next time the system wants to write a file called Rillog.txt, it does not because it sees the folder with the same name there. So your main memory space will not be taken up by the file anymore. Which is why you need the folder there. Remove the folder and the next time you use GPS extensively, the file will return.
Does this help you?

Hi
I have a rillog.txt and a rillogy.txt file, the latter looks like it contains some useful(?) information. Did you come across this file youself and should I give it the same treatment? (I use memory-map for gps.)
Thanks
Mike
Hi Mike
It’s the same. Just copy it to your SD card first in case you don’t feel safe deleting it.
