Find out how the Glofiish M800 by Eten fares
Powered by MaxBlogPress

Recommended Software

The last ROM for the X500 came out in May 2007 or so and since then, there has not been a newer one available. It looks like ETEN has stopped developing ROMs for the X500 which is why I have decided to take matters into my own hands. I have decided to cook my own ROM and would like you to help me. However, before we begin, I would like to tell you that this is my first time cooking a ROM for any device. I have read up about it before but I have never tried it. And since ETEN has no newer ROMs for me and my warranty is over, I guess I have nothing to lose.

How You Can Help

I would like to know what you would like the ROM to have. Remove all ETEN applications? Keep some of them? Add some free third-party software? Do some registry changes? Let me know what you think. I can’t guarantee that I will be able to do everything that you have requested for but I will try my best to do so. Plus, it might just help you win some cash prizes too.

On this note, please do not ask for WM6.1. It’s not out yet and I don’t think I am up to that level as yet.

When Will The ROM Be Out?

Good question. I am not sure when the ROM will be completed and even when it is, I have to test it first. So it could be a good 2-3 weeks before it is finally made available.

If you would like to beta test it with me before it is released to the public, feel free to let me know in the comments below as well.

Can You Teach Me How To Cook?

At the moment, everything is still experimental so the answer is no. Besides, I don’t want you messing up your device and blaming me. However, when I feel that the methods are sound enough and I have created a successful, I will teach you how to cook.

What Can We Expect From This ROM?

Well for starters, I plan to make it less buggy than all previous ROMs. If there is a constant problem that has a solution posted, I will try to apply that solution to the new ROM. If there isn’t one, then I can’t do anything now can I? It would also have some basic applications installed. It will not be a vanilla install because you can easily have one but it will be bloated as well.

I will post updates on the progress as I go along so do stay tuned for it.

In the mean time, let your thoughts be heard in the comments below.

I have one M700 , it would be nice to have a cooked ROM with windows mobile 6, just remove all eten applications, remove WMP, remove PIE, remove office, add performance tweaks, change the memory pool, add eten patches.

Don’t add any extra software, let people install what they like the most, maybe add one html page with tips for the software you recommend and links to their pages ;)

Be careful, if you had SDHC drivers that can cause problems like not being able to proper read SD cards, regarding other software please leave it simple as possible, patches and fixes are welcome but let the user get the software he like the most. If you had programs that only a few people use that would be just a waste of memory for most of us.

Hi PJMDS

That’s a good point. I am acutally thinking of a clean ROM with everything removed and then providing links to some useful patches/applications. I will never be able to create a ROM that suits everybody anyways.

Hi pivert

I am not sure I understand you mean in the first part of your message. Could you rephrase it?

Hi guys, please don’t assume that one SDHC driver works fine just because it supports one card, it could easily give problems with other cards and almost for certain doesn’t support regular SD cards.

Tariq you can cook a ROM with the basic features and put extra software on a archive (rar, zip or even cab), anyone who wants the extra software can download that archive and install.
