Around The Windows Mobile World On February 11 2008
Feb 11th, 2008 by Tariq Bamadhaj
I am going to be publishing today’s mobile news earlier than usual because of the backlog of news from last week and also because I anticipate and avalanche of news due to Barcelona.
SMS Chat For Windows MobileI used to text heavily on my phone but as of late, that activity has came to a standstill thanks to raising costs. But for those of you lucky enough to have cheap tariffs or an unlimited plan, be sure to check out VITO’s latest offering: SMS-Chat. It threads your messages so you can follow the conversation much easier, just like when you are instant messaging.

Eten Glofiish M810 Is Official
After a few weeks of waiting, the M810 is finally official. This is a cross between the M700 and M800. Building on the former, it adds 3G, boosted the processor to 500MHz and ROM to 256MB ROM and SDHC. However, unlike the M800, it does not have VGA screen so this could mean that the M810 might not suffer from the slowdown associated with VGA displays. This sure sounds tempting. Is it on your list? FireFox Gets Closer To Release
If you have always wondered if a version for the Pocket PC would make it to market, you can set your doubts aside. There’s a wiki (which was shared in a recent Link Love) where you can follow its development but at that time, there were no screenshots. No preview yet for those wanting it on your device at this time but it could be anytime soon. [via Pocket PC Addict]
Pockster Newspaper Games Available
Avid fan of those games you find in newspapers like Sudoku, Crosswords, Crypto and Wordsearch? If you said to even one of those, then you might want to check out Pockster Newspaper Games which has been custom-coded just for this suite. [via Pokster Newspaper Games]
Handy Weather 3 Released
If you are still on the lookout for a weather application, even after reading our Pocket Weather review, then you might want to check out Handy Weather 3 which was recently released. I am pretty happy with PW so I doubt I would make the switch but if you are a fan of HW, feel free to share with me why it’s the one for you. [via Pocket PC Magazine]
Nokia To Not Add Windows Mobile Platform
There was a rumor last week that Nokia might be bringing the Windows Mobile platform to their line of models but before I could report about it, Nokia’s CEO has come around and said that it would not happen. Instead, they will be bringing a touch-screen Symbian platform. So much for the rumor. [via Engadget]
But SonyEricsson Is
While it’s no go with Nokia, SonyEricsson has decided to bring Windows Mobile with its first offering being the XPERIA X1. As things are still new (it was only announced at Barcelona), expect more info in due time. [via Engadget]
Another Browser Joins The Fray: Iris
Based on the same technology as Wake3 and the Safari browser that you see in the iPhone, Torch Mobile now has created one of their own. The interesting thing is that many of those on the team are actually key contributors to the WebKit development and they have taken their expertise to do something for Windows Mobile. GPS, aGPS and now eGPS
Confused on choosing between GPS and aGPS? Not to worry, I have a post coming out tomorrow on it. But here’s a new technology to add to the confusion: eGPS. Supposedly superior to aGPS and able to work even in areas that have zero GPS signal, it is also faster. And best of all, the makers expect to sell it at $1 a unit. [via Engadget]
HTC X7510 Announced
For those of you who like your devices big, keep a lookout for this one. Not only does it get a 16GB Flash drive, it’s VGA display is powered by ATI video acceleration which should mean no slowdown. At 624MHz and 256MB ROM/128MB RAM, I don’t expect it to either. Expect it to be released in March. [via Engadget]

The opera mobile 9.5 is my dream browser, can’t wait to use it
best regards
I am glad you are. It looks like my dream browser too though it’s going to be a tough fight between that and SkyFire. I think Opera might release it sometime in March.
I will definitely buy Opera Mobile 9.5 , my PPC just needs to have a good browser, Opera could also have full support for flash applications but that’s not their fault.
Can’t wait for the HTC Advantage x7510! I hope they address the lighting or non-backlight on the keyboard.
sorry to say, i wont be buying an htc ever again. i had 2 of the ppc6800 in a months time and they both were junk. both would shock me when i picked them up! a few times it reset itself, lost my voice tags and ringtones…not to mention all the talk about the chipset sluggish problems. sometimes it would take up to 4 seconds to transfer from standard to landscape mode when you slide out the kboard.glad i got rid of it. so now im looking at the glo or m800.
