New X500 WM6 Lighted ROM

For those of you waiting for my cooked ROM, you will have to wait a bit longer as I have been so busy lately that I have not had time to really work on it. I pretty much know what I want to put in the ROM so it’s just a matter of cooking it. However, for those of you who are keen to try out new ROMs, here is a ROM in WWE, FRE and GER version created by panot. This ROM is based on Eten’s last X500 ROM (X500 WWE R01 032 0436 MOT0110 WM6).
Changes To The ROM

- + latest driver for microSD and microSDHC inside the ROM (very useful)
- + Softkey control panel applet (for settings hardware buttons)
- + New themes added
- + Very fast and stable device
- + 31MB free (RAM)
- + 50MB free (ROM)
- - Eten orange OEM theme removed
- - Removed “Marketplace” link
- - Removed Windows Live
- - Removed Windows Messenger
- - Removed many unnecessary Etens CABs from ExtROM
- - Removed phone applications from Eten (unneeded)

After downloading the ROM of your choice, you will need to do a ROM upgrade via SD Card Flashing.
Issues With Older SD Card
Because this ROM has the SDHC patch, there have been reports that older SD (the normal ones) cards do not work on this ROM. To test, install this patch BEFORE you do the ROM update and then see if your SD card can be read. This is the same patch that is in the Lighted ROM and if your card can be read after installing the patch, then it will work after you do the ROM upgrade as well. If your SD card cannot be read, then you have 2 alternatives, get a newer SD card (or a SDHC card) or use these versions which uses the old SD driver:

MMS
This ROM does not have MMS so if are a user, you will want to install this MMS Cab.

Does this rom work/is needed for x500+?
Nope, it’s meant for the X500. The X500+ has a different set of files due to it’s VGA resolution.

I read you article “New X500 WM6 Lighted ROM” posted on Feb 13th, 2008. Really wonderful job you have done. I had tried to update my X500 (presently running on WM5.0) with your new New X500 WM6 Lighted ROM. I did the following steps as mentioned in your post.
1. Formatted my micro SD card (File system: FAT, Allocation unit size: Default allocation size)
2. Copied your temp.bin and USBDLUpdate_Console.exe (downloaded from Eten Blog site) to micro SD card. Found copied successfully.
3. When I went to boot loader mode I found the following message
• “Current OS version not supported”
• Immediately the message “USB host is not connected yet” was displayed.
4. My X500 present ROM details are: X500 VER R32 WWE 032 0355. Date 2007/02/27 16:02
Please tell me how install your “New X500 WM6 Lighted ROM” into my X500.

Hi Murali and welcome to the site
Did you download the right version? There are WWE, FRE and GER versions. You have to download the right version for your device. This is what I think is causing the error on your device.
Hi Tariq thank you very much for your reply. I have downloaded WWE version only. Today I have tried even your new release “Lighted ROM For X500: V2.5″ but I am getting the same error like before. I went to explorer to view the contents of my micro SD card (X500 is running on WM5) and I could able to see temp.bin & USBDLUpdate_Console.exe.
Please help me out to install WM6 into my X500
How big is the storage card that you are using? It’s best to use at least 512MB to let the files unpack
I am using 2GB Scandisk micro SD card.
Hmm that’s weird because it should work. Try to do an official upgrade to WM6 first before doing these ROM upgrades.
I have not registered yet to eten site. I will try to do it now and download the official WM6.
How to find out the OS edition of my X500. It is the required field in eten register page. Pls help me
