News On February 14 2008
Feb 14th, 2008 by Tariq Bamadhaj
I can’t believe that I have been dating these posts wrongly. For those wondering, I put the header ‘News On January 11 2008′, ‘News On January 12 2008′ and ‘News On January 13 2008′ and no one told me about it. I am amazed nobody noticed this (including me)
Anyways, before I kick off the news for February 14th 2008, I just want to wish one and all Happy Valentines’ Day. Maybe you’ve celebrated or you are just about to celebrate it, depending on where you live, but I hope that it’s going to be or was a great day for you.
US Will Not Be Getting The HP iPAQ 610
For those in the US waiting for this smartphone, I guess you’ll have to find another way to get it besides going through your local dealer. Not much information was given but they did mention that it was ‘due to legal issues between suppliers of mobile phone technologies’. I am not sure what that means and whether you can find them in other parts of the world but a safe bet would be to look at another model. [via Engadget]
i-mate Not Going Bankrupt
It looks like reports of i-mate going bankrupt were not true after all, according to msmobiles.com anyways. The company has a big presence at MWC and did some pretty big marketing as well. Which is a good thing, because it would be sad to see such a company that is starting to bring some great devices to market go under. [via msmobiles.com]
Microsoft Shuffles Execs
The head of it’s mobile division is going to be replaced by Andrew Lees who is currently corporate VP at the company’s server and tools group. Whether this is a good thing or not waits to be seen but one thing’s for sure, Microsoft really needs to look into it’s Windows Mobile if it wants to increase its presence. [via Wall Street Journal]
i-mate Ultimate 8502 and 9502 Arrives In Australia
It was just yesterday that I told you about the 2 new Ultimate series from i-mate, the 8502 and 9502. Both had some really great specs but there were no news yet as to when it would be released. Well, if you are in Australia, the wait will soon come to an end because it will soon be available at AUD$999 for the 8502 and $1099 for the 9502. This could only mean that these feature packed devices could be coming to other parts of the world soon enough. [via Pocket PC Thoughts]
VITO GoodWin Changelog
For those who are wondering if they should upgrade their version of GoodWin, here is the changelog to help you decide:
- Today plug-in.
- Supports FunContact & SMS-Chat
- Quicker start-up
- Instant switching between Favorites& Running, Programs & settings
- Tasks were added to the top bar
- By tapping phone operator you can access the phone settings
That’s about all the news today. Not much I agree. Could be that love’s in the air that removes the mood for work.

Maybe it’s time for me to install GoodWin
I never tried it
Yeah I noticed that too. Seems like all the cool news were on the first day of WMC. Anyways do check out my review of GoodWin if you have not done so. Though it’s based on an older version, most of the features are discussed.
I believe there was something about Motorola as well, first the rumor was that they were going to leave the mobile market, but then they announced something new that would suggest that they wouldn’t leave. Didn’t read the news, just the headline, but it’s on the same line as iMate not going bankrupt and HP not releasing that device in the US (will US people see more of a certain company).

But perhaps that news was not from today
I think Motorola wants to leave the mobile market. They are looking for someone to buy their mobile division but so far, no company is biting. The reason they came up with something new (the fuel cell) could be that they plan to sell it to the other mobile companies rather than keep it for themselves. I am just assuming if all these news were true to begin with
Ah that was it, the fuel cell! Your theory sounds good, so I’ll go with it.
