Recommended Software

This is new for me and with 2008 being all about the community, this could not have come at a better time. PJMDS has just created this game which he asked me to try out and I found it rather fun and decided to share it with you. It’s a rather simple game but as you can see from screen shots below, it will bring you hours of fun. And coming from a non-PPC-gamer, that might say a lot about the game.

Obejective

boxclicker - Instructions

The game is rather simple. There are 9 blue squares and without any warning, one of them will turn red. You have to tap on this red square to score a point.

boxclicker - Tap the red box boxclicker - Where is the red box now?
Tap on the red box to score a point Before it moves to another spot

Settings

boxclicker - The only setting you can change is speed

The only tweak you can do with this game is to alter the speed. Fast or Slow or somewhere in between? You decide for yourself. There is even an auto-speed though I did not really see that kick in while I was playing. It could be due that I was not playing it long enough or that it increases (or decreases) the speed rather slowly.

Suggestions

Since this is the first version, I think it can further improved. Here are my suggestions:

  • Multi colors. Have more than one color so that the user will have to pay careful attention.
  • Stages. It would be interesting feature where in one stage they have to tap all the green boxes and in the next all the red boxes and in the next, tap alternating red and green boxes.
  • High Scores. Maybe have a page where the high scores are kept?

Download

For those interested, here is the game.

It’s in a RAR archive so you need to extract the EXE file from inside. Once done, just tap on it to play.

Note: You will need to have .NET CF installed beforehand to play this game. If you do not have it, you can download it from Micrsoft here.

Conclusion

All in all, I think this a rather fun game that I would be playing when waiting for the bus or in line. While it’s simple, I think it does have some value in a sense that it helps you work on your reaction time.

Thanks for sharing this game with us PJMDS. If you are a developer and would like to share your creations with us, feel free to contact me and let me know about it.

Good review, the suggestions are cool and I have some ideas to improve the game, there are still some minor bugs that need to be fixed, if anyone is interested I will spend more time adding game modes, best regards

Cool! I agree on the multicolor, it would be so much harder if there were like 3 or 5 colors (and the red box), some being on two blocks. Then if all colors shift to other positions, you can’t simply look at which blocks change, but you also have to see which color they change to.

But of course if you’ve got inspiration to make a totally different program to use different parts of your coding knowledge, go for it.

Pretty cool! I’m not much into games and practically own only a few games from Astraware. That’s really cool. Thanks for sharing, PJMDS.

Certainly I can share, I can even put the Visual Studio project in one archive, the game was programed in visual basic and has no comments on the code, also there are lots of things done the hard way, my programing skills are not great :(

Tariq can you add the archive with the project source on this blog entry or just hosting it on your blog ?

Thanks PJMDS!
Little feed-back: Everytime I open the game the message box appears..I don’t like it a lot. :P
Little bug: When I click pause after I’m able to score one point (if I did’t score it before).

Good night,
Federico
