If you have not tried out PJMDS’s BoxClicker, you should. It’s a really simple game where the objective is for you to tap on the red box in a sea of blue boxes. But be careful though, some times the box that pops up at you is not the one you should be tapping. This game was released by PJMDS last friday and after some suggestions, he’s done some updates on his end and come up with an improved BoxClicker v1.1. He’s also provided the source code and an installation package for those interested.

Installation Package

That’s right. You no longer have to copy the .exe file over to your device and tap it because PJMDS has taken the liberty to create a CAB installer for you. Now you can install it just like any other CAB file you have.

Source Codes

For all our coders to be, feel free to look through the code that PJMDS used to create this game.

What’s Changed

BoxClicker v1.1 - Main screen

There quite a few changes to this and I will try to list them out. If I missed something, feel free to let me know.

New Icon. The game now comes with a new icon.

BoxClicker v1.1 - Orange box BoxClicker v1.1 - Green box
Where did that orange come from? Green box to confuse you.

Multi-Color. It’s still a sea of blue boxes but this time other colored boxes like orange and green pop up as well. However, you should still only tap on the red boxes to score points.

Points Scored. Speaking of scores, the point system has changed. You get more points for tapping the red box at a higher game play, unlike the previous version where you scored the same point regardless of speed.

No more pop up boxes. That’s right. There’s no more boxes popping up every time you start the application or tap Reset.

Suggestions

After playing the game for a while, I have some suggestions.

Scoring System. I am not really sure how the points are scored. They seem to double at some instances but not others. Could you elaborate it?

Deduct Points. Still on the subject of points, I think it would be awesome if you could deduct points for wrongly tapped boxes. Like tapping on a blue or other colored box when you are suppose to just tap on the red ones.

High Scores. Possible to incorporate?

I am not really much of a gamer so I don’t really know how to improve the game so if any of you have any suggestions, feel free to list them in the comments below.

Hi Tariq, thanks for another review of my game
The scoring system is still underdevelopment, you win points by clicking the red boxes and loose points when clicking on the orange and green, clicking in the blue ones should also remove points but I forgot  , another thing I forgot is to deduct points every time you fail to click any box and there was a red box.

I’m very  , the source code is a mess, I’m not experienced in programing in visual basic but I know that most of the code can be simplified and improved.

I will wait for more feedback, if more people are interested or just want to make suggestions or report bugs I will continue to improve the game.

No worries. Sorry I didn’t email you earlier to tell you about the post as I was really swamped with work today. I think this is a great game: simple and pretty addictive. I was actually playing with it earlier today while waiting for the bus and it sure made time fly.

Well…I played with the game today!
Suggestion: switch text boxes with labels! :)
Feed-back: when I hit a box, the game stops for a moment (half second)!

Good night,
Federico

Hi Federico, the game isn’t very efficient, that’s why you get the half second stop, when I have more time and patience I will make it in C++.

best regards
