VITO Technology Celebrates 7th Birthday: $7 Software

There seem to be a lot of great deals in the month of February. Currently, through a partnership with SBSH, Eten Blog is able to offer readers PocketWeather 2.0 for 45% off. And now, with VITO Technology celebrating their 7th birthday, they’ve announced a $7 price on all their software. That’s $7 a license on over 40 different titles on a range of platforms including Symbian. This deal will last 7 days and applies to all software on their main site as well as their iwindowsmobile.com site. [via VITO Technology]

Handango Tells Developers To Screw Off

That seems to be the message with their latest Content Distribution Agreement (CDA). Come March 15th, they will take 50% (instead of 40%) if the developer’s title(s) do not sell more than $250 000 (which I assume is most of them). If that number is between $250 001 and $1 000 000 (a million), then Handango will take 40% and anything over a million means Handango takes 30%. Pretty steep price cuts if you ask me. What do you think? [via The Boy Genius Report]

Samsung Confirms European Availability of SGH-i780

If you live in Europe and have been waiting for the i780 which runs on Windows Mobile 6, then your days of waiting will soon be over. Carriers such as Orange UK and Telefónica Movistar are confirmed but don’t be disheartened if you don’t see your carrier here because there are many others which Samsung did not disclose. And the all important price? Between 489 and 549 Euro, depending on where you live. [via the::unwired]

WebMessenger Is Now Free

There are not that many free instant messaging application out there for Windows Mobile, in fact the only one I know of right now is Palringo. Add another to the list: WebMessenger. Once a commercial software, it’s now free with no ads and spam (according to their Privacy Policy) but the catch is that, it might not remain free forever. So ride the wave while it lasts. Noise Reduction Software For Windows Mobile

Don’t want to spend a bomb on Aliph Jawbone bluetooth headset? Then you might want to consider getting a device that has Solicall Mobile built-in the next time you go mobile shopping. The developers of this software has just announced an SDK that has a lot of interested mobile phone manufacturers. However, this software is not meant to be purchased by a user, instead you will have to hope that your mobile manufacturer gets it (Eten are you listening?). [via SolSie.com]

Zumobi Gets An Update

If you are a user of the Zumobi browser (of which I am ain’t), then there’s a new update for you. A smaller installation file, significant performance improvements and a first time sync of under 5 minutes are just some of the new features. Still free as before, don’t forget to grab your update if you have not done so. [via the::unwired]

Win A Free Zune

Love it or hate it, getting a free Zune is not bad right? Unless you have an allergic reaction to it, then you can just skip this part. But for the rest of us who wouldn’t mind receiving a free Zune, here’s your chance. Microsoft is giving away one 8GB version on a daily basis from now till March 31st. All you have to do is log into your Hotmail or Windows Live email account on your mobile phone and send an email to WINAZUNE@live.com with “Go Zune” in the subject line.. More details here. HTC To Fix Video Driver Issue?

Well it’s not really clear at this time due to the lack details. In fact, I am not sure if this is a workaround or a licensed fix (which was what started the problem in the first place) and even then, which devices will be given this fix. Maybe HTC anticipates a huge PR disaster if they do not come up with a solution? [via pocketnow.com]

Lufthansa Gets More Mobile

It used to be that if you accessed their site on your device, you would only be able to check flight status and check-in and that was if you had an e-ticket. Those days are gone and now, it’s even more featured. For starters, the site got a complete redesign. On top of that, you can now book your tickets and check-in as well. To make it even better you can also check their departure and arrival timetables, frequent flier miles, location of their lounges and even general travel information. How’s that for mobile travelling? [via the::unwired]

Call Jockey Free Till End February 2008

If you have ever found yourself in a situation where you needed to leave and hoping that someone would call you to make it seem polite, then you might want to try this program out. It’s a free application that will simulate an incoming call so the next time you are at a boring event and need to excuse yourself, just schedule the call ahead and you’ll be back in time to do whatever it is you wanted to do. First of all, I’m obviously interested to see the HTC improvement for the Kaiser. I’ve read it probably won’t have anything to do with the driver, technically, but that’s really not anything I know a lot about. I’ve got this from TiltSite: http://tiltsite.com/2008/02/htc-to-release-driversupdates-for-tilttytn-ii-in-march/

What does make me concerned is how things are going in the software distributor scene. Lately I’ve been asking some developers if they could offer their software on Mobihand, but one said they were not really planning to do so because it wouldn’t add more sales, and another one actually recently TOOK AWAY their software from Mobihand since it didn’t add a lot. All sales seem to be coming from Handango but look at what their doing to the customers. I’ve heard that Mobihand and Clickgamer etc are much friendlier to the developers, so it’s really sad that even with better conditions, having software on these less popular sites still isn’t worth it. Of course it’s great how Handango gave us Free App Friday last year, but thinking about who pays for these things puts things in a different perspective.

Yeah there seems to be no confirmation as to what the solution is at the moment. However, if it still offers improved video, I think that is a step in the right direction.

I do agree with you on Handango. They are the biggest software house out there from what I see. Someone has to do something about it. I mean these developers have to work their butt off to create, test and release their software. While I do agree that software houses should take a commission, the amount that Handango takes is really absurbdly high. I mean, how many of them actually sell more than $250 000 titles a month?

“Win A Free Zune”

Only if you live in the US of A, just as every other MS contest in the last decade … Do they know there are other continents out there ???

Has a customer I prefer to search and visit the official websites of each product instead of companies like handango and others.
If Handango takes so much money from the developers why do they still use it ? make the same has the writers strike at Hollywood, stop “feeding” Handango

Because at the moment, there is no other solution that offers as wide a reach as Handango. There are a lot of users who prefer to go to software houses and make their purchase because they get to browse through all the titles. And these users sometimes end up buying titles they were not planning to get in the first place (trickling sales) and this is a big benefit to developers.

I also always go the site of the developer, but unfortunately most of them seem to list Handango as their preferred distributor, simply by linking to them or working with a basket that automatically creates the purchase at Handango.
It’s a shame, in the PPC blog world many people agree that Handango has gotten to the point of doing things look quite unacceptable, but most customers never read blogs like these and just find Handango a useful site with lots of software.

Happy 7th, VITO Technology! I think it’s an excellent deal to offer $7 for each app! Maybe they were listening when I made the comment about discounting software for customers?

Regardless, I think I have a few that I will be getting.

Sounds like a good plan. They do have some really good software that you could check out.
