Find out how the Glofiish M800 by Eten fares

Recommended Software

panot from Eten Users Forum is at it again with another update to his very fast, very stable and very popular Lighted ROM for the Eten Glofiish X500. This is one of the best cooked ROMs for the X500 that I have come across. Not only is it stable, it also removes a lot of the unnecessary applications from the ROM, thereby giving you more space. An interesting feature of the ROM is that your X500 will no longer suffer from the echo issues seen in most other devices. For those new to this ROM, it is based on Eten’s last official ROM for the X500 (X500 WWE R01 032 0436 MOT0110 WM6).

Issues With Older SD Card

Because this ROM has the SDHC patch, there have been reports that older SD (the normal ones) cards do not work on this ROM. To test, install this patch BEFORE you do the ROM update and then see if your SD card can be read. This is the same patch that is in the Lighted ROM and if your card can be read after installing the patch, then it will work after you do the ROM upgrade as well. If your SD card cannot be read, then you have 2 alternatives, get a newer SD card (or a SDHC card) or use these versions which uses the old SD driver.

Wow this cooked rom came at the right time. My x500 on the old official rom is giving me problems lately. Sometimes after removing the usb cable, the icon still shows connected to activesync. Sometimes it refuses to respond to tabs and i have to soft reset it (and the soft reset does not take effect immediately). I would love to try it as soon as I’m bored of working on my sch assignments!

BTW, what is the ExtROM Cabs? Are they the cab files that come together with the cooked rom but requires manual installation? And if i rem correctly, SPB mobile shell isn’t free so has the software been ‘cooked’ as well?

Lastly, is the skype switch included?

Looks like you are in need of a hard reset (just like me).

The ExtROM Cabs are CABS which are in the External ROM. You can prevent these CABs from installing by using the camera trick, much like the preventing the ETEN applications from installing after a hard reset.

I am not too sure about Spb Mobile Shell as I have not tried the ROM. It could be a version from another device (like the X800 which has it) or a trial version. Can anyone confirmed?

Nope. No Skype though you can always install it yourself.

Oh then most of the ExtROM Cabs are what I would like to have. Besides the x500, my desktop PC is also slowing down terribly. Perhaps I should fix the X500 first. Thanks Tariq!

I have another question which the description of the cooked rom did not mention; does it fix the pop3 and WM6 pin lock problem?

Nope I don’t think it fixes that problem though there is a CAB floating around that does.

Any chance we will be seeing a comparable ROM for the X800 too, or is that too much wishful thinking? ;-).

If you are asking for an X800 version of the Lighted ROM, I am not too sure. But if you are looking for a cooked ROM for the X800, there was one released some time back which you can find here.

cool, I really like it. I have used WM5 before and there the “turn on WiFi” was actually “turn off WiFi”, pretty useful. Of course, “on” IS annoying, an obvious bug from MS. BTW: anybody received EVER an update from Microsoft? They seem to have given up on WM6, hopefully to make WM7 better…

I don’t think that thing ever worked to begin with :P

with network name fix it should be possible now to have GoogleMaps GSM localization possible. Of course GPS is more accurate, but slower and drains battery.

I can’t seem to get the GSM fix location to work on my X500. Could you?

GPS on the other hand works fine for me though.

no GSM fix, it says “localization unavilable at the moment, try again later”, or similar. Microsoft adds GoogleMaps for the US market WM devices as the default maps, but I think I should be able to get a GSM fix here in Denmark? I like GoogleMaps for use on foot to explore new cities.
GPS works fine for me too.

I am not too sure but I think he is working on a few ROMs at the moment so WWE would be his priority.

Hi, I am new to PDA… But I have a problem with my x500 (phone sometimes breaks the connection on the beginning of the conversation) so I thought to make the ROM upgrade - but how - I downloaded you file, I copied the extracted files to MSDcard and now it wants some kind of code from me? Am I dooing something wrong?

Comment by Tariq Bamadhaj
2008-02-28 19:30:44

Yeah I would guess so. What code is it asking you for? And which part in the process are you at when this code was asked?

It requests V_key - Action Key Verification; text field and two buttons below - Apply or Reset.

This happens, if I try to run the USBDLUpdate.exe from PDA.

You’re not suppose to run the .exe from your PDA. Just follow the instructions on flashing your ROM from a storage card and it will be just fine.

Well, something was instaled. :) But I am not sure what - I did a hard reset (I formated microSD card and then I copied those two files to it), then installation was going on for a couple of mintes and now it works again but everything seems similar as before, I still don’t see Total Commander for example. The OS version is: 5.1.342.

So you are saying that the hard reset went ahead smoothly, just that now that you are in Windows Mobile, you do not see Total Commander? The application is located in your /Windows/ folder. See if you can find it there.

Tariq, I am pretty sure that the ROM was not updated – the calculator is as nasty as before , Messenger is still there, TotalCommander not at the specified folder… And the phoe still shuts down 10 sec after receiving a call – so I still have the same problem that made me think of upgrading ROM.

Can you tell me if ma steps are ok:
- backup…
- formating the card to FAT
- copying the files (extracted from the downloaded archive) to the card over ActiveSync
- hard reset (power + reset + hang off + accept)
It should be automatic afterwards (it says »Install« for a couple of minutes), as far I understood, but it seems like I only make a hard reset.

I am not too sure if I you could copy the files over via ActiveSync because it is (highly) recommended that you do so over a memory card reader. One option you could try is to install WM5Storage, format the card to FAT and then copy the files over using that application. Once done, do the Flash From Storage Card process and it should get you up and running to the new ROM.

The problem I see with ActiveSync transfers is that ActiveSync could have changed the file.

Hi, I think I have to apoligize first - I was not informed correctlly - I thought that hard reset is the same as entering bootlaoder mode. :) Now I can finally enter it, but it appears that my card is too old - this is what I found on another blog:

Before upgrading install this and try if your microSD card will be read. Some the oldest microSD cards cannot be read. In such case uninstal and don’t upgrade! (another reason why your card cannot be read is, that you haven’t formated your card into FAT16. It is important!)

The problem is, that I bought a new card and the problem remains. :) Any suggestions? And thank you again for beeing patient!

No problems but I hope you read the instructions clearly next time.

You must use the a normal SD card, not the newer SDHC cards in the market. And you must format the card in FAT (also called FAT16).

As for the ROMs, I would recommend that you use the non-SDHC version and then if you need to, install the SDHC patch.

Hi, I haven’t found the appropriate card (although I didn’t put a lot of effort in searching, because my phone works again :)) so I would like to thank you for the instructions. If I get the appropriate card, I’ll now how to proceede! Thank you!
