Link Love For March 2 2008
Mar 2nd, 2008 by Tariq Bamadhaj
The first week of March and a new list of interesting articles to share. Some of them are not related to Windows Mobile though but I hope you like them.
- What’s Bill Gate’s latest (dumb) prediction? Find out here.
- Not exactly related to Windows Mobile but rather interesting nonetheless. If you’re going to be driving your car for several years, it’d be a great idea to tech it up wouldn’t it? Well that’s just what this guy did and you can follow his journey.
- It looks like native mobile applications are fast being replaced by mobile web applications. Just a matter of time before we say goodbye to installations?
- All these next-generation browsers sure are taking a long time to come out of beta/released. In the mean time, we’ll just have to keep ourselves occupied with this SkyFire review.
- Too many cables such that you are always getting them mixed up? Then maybe this tip might help you untangle your life somewhat.
- Maybe you’re interested in Google Android? If that sounds like you, here’s a video.
- Need a GrandCentral account? Then here’s a way to get accepted into the beta quickly.
- I’ve always enjoyed MoDaCo’s podcast as they discuss some rather interesting issues. Have you heard them yet?
- If you prefer msmobiles.com’s podcast, here it is.
- And here’s a newcomer,Mobility Today’s, (as in the first time I hear them) podcast.
- Fan of the Wall Street Journal? Well now you can read them for free on your mobile device.
- It seems that Werner still has some areas to cover with regards to WMC ‘08. This time, it’s about the upcoming i-mate devices.
- Curious about Eten’s upcoming Glofiish V900 and the DVB-H technology that it’s been talking about? Well then this short article should clear things up for you.
- Ever wanted to sync your Pocket PC with your PC but you do not have Outlook or do not want to install Outlook? Then this might help.
- Windos Mobile may be marketed as an enterprise solution for a long time but that might change very soon.
- Looking for a bluetooth headset that comes with a built-in USB charger and card reader? Look no further.
- My laptop doesn’t come with built-in bluetooth so I had to buy a dongle for it. But if only I had waited several days, I could have found a better option.
- What’s the big deal about 3G? Is it overrated? Him and him certainly thinks so. What about you?
- Enjoyed last week’s review of the Glofiish X650? Well here’s Part 2.
- Do you sync your storage cards? No? Maybe this program will help you.
- Which do you think is the sexiest Windows Mobile device?
- Is the screen resolution (VGA or qVGA) important to you? I’d say speed (performance) first. What about you?
- Interested in getting a copy of Extreme Agenda but need a review to convince you? Here’s one for starters.
As usual, if you have any stories/articles to recommend, do let me know about it.

Tariq, I’ve just bookmarked the topic about syncing without Outlook, since it is a problem I’ve been having for two months now, and have never been able to find a solution for. Since purchasing my new laptop with Vista, I also had to get Office 2007, and my version didn’t include Outlook. (The CDRom that came with my TyTn II only had Outlook 2007 TRIAL, and the CDRom from my Wizard had Outlook 2002 which doesn’t work on Vista)
So I’ll read the entire topic tomorrow and will try to set it up afterwards. If it works, you’ve filled a major gap and I’ll be extremely happy with you and your blog!
As far as web apps go, I’d really rather stay installing apps for now, I don’t really feel safe having my personal data in “the cloud”, and also unlimited data plans should first become general practise.
Just installed everything, and while I did have some issues getting things set up properly (I lost my PIM data during the first sync, so had to restore it from a backup in order to make it sync correctly on the next synchronization), everything seems to be working correctly now. I’ll try this for the next 21 days (the BirdieSync trial) and purchase the license if it keeps my data synced without problems.
Thanks so much!
I’m glad to hear that you have finally found a solution. Maybe this solution deserves it’s own thread as I doubt you are the only one facing the problem.
It has it’s own thread at the link you provided, but the discussiong is rather off topic quite quickly I believe. What’s important is that people backup their data and keep that backup. After getting everything set up I also had some instances where my PIM data doubled and even tripled, so I had to remove all that and restore my PIM data again. I really hope that these are just problems getting started, and that I won’t experience them any more from now on.
I know exactly what you mean because I faced the same problem as well when I sync-ed with Outlook after creating a new Profile on it and those problems that you mentioned occurred. Thank god I had PIM Backup which made the restoration process quick and painless.
